Above: 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible interior shown in Red Leather with pleated design pattern (trim code 85). Leather is standard on Convertible models, and optional on the Sedan. 1964 Lincoln Trim Codes consist of two numbers. The first number indicates the upholstery material, design, and seating configuration. The second number specifies the trim color. Special order trim that deviates from stock will include 2 suffix digits after the trim code. If the suffix is alphabetical, the trim can be serviced by the dealer; if the suffix is numerical it is not serviced. The break down is as follows: FIRST NUMBER (MATERIAL) SECOND NUMBER (COLOR) CONVERTIBLE TOPTOP CODE - COLOR VINYL ROOFA factory vinyl roof was not available for the 1964 Continentals. There is a remote possibility that a few very late production cars left the factory with a vinyl roof, but Automotive Mileposts has not verified that at this time. More than likely, '64 models that appear to have factory-installed vinyl roofs were modified by the dealer to sell stock on hand or to update customer's cars with 1965 parts. We will update this if additional information becomes available and can be verified. DETAILSUpholstery patterns: Two different upholstery patterns were used on the 1964 Lincoln Continentals. The pleated style, as shown in the red leather example above, was the "standard" design. The Continental Motif (or Symbol) Cloth upholstery also utilized the pleated pattern. An optional Versailles Damask upholstery was a no cost option for the Sedan, and featured the new biscuit design pattern. This design was also used on all interiors with the contour front seat option, regardless of upholstery material. Contour seats were available in leather or Versailles Damask (in limited color choices), but not with the Motif Cloth. Seating: Continental seats are available in three different cloth materials, two of them featuring genuine leather bolsters. Leather is optional on the Sedan and standard on the Convertible model. Soft foam rubber cushions measure up to 5.5 inches thick. Front bench seats are standard, and new individually adjustable contour front seats with console are optional, although they are not available in all upholsteries and colors. Carpeting: Cut-pile nylon carpeting is color-keyed to the interior, and is a single seamless piece, molded to the floor contours from door to door. On interiors with light and dark shades of the same color, the carpeting is generally the darker shade. Under the carpeting, a thick jute pad silences road noise and cushions feet. Convertible Top: 5-ply top has heavy, satin-grained, wrinkle-resistant vinyl combined with two layers of cotton fabric that are bonded together with butyl rubber adhesive to form a single thickness of tough, waterproof top material. Main seams are solidly bonded to reduce the possibility of separation, and the top material is firmly anchored to all roof bows to prevent "ballooning" at highway speeds. |

*Trim codes 17 - White with Turquoise and 18 - White with Rose Beige were by special order only. Note: Some sources list code 51 as Silver Blue and Light Silver Blue Metallic Versailles Cloth and Leather Biscuit Design Contour Seats, but it is actually Silver Blue Biscuit Design Leather Contour Seats. Also, those same sources also list a trim code 59 for Palomino Leather Biscuit Design Contour Seats, which should correctly be listed as trim code 89 - Palomino Leather Pleated Design Bench Seat. |
